Term 3 Week 4
Principal Update
The term is sure flying by, and we have been so busy.
On Sunday I went and saw the Head to Health truck that was visiting through Winton. This will provide some great opportunity for support for our kids and community. I will work with the PHN team on referral processes etc., and communicate this to families and students. It is exciting though to see an additional service become available to support our community.
Thank you to students and staff who attended our year 10/11/12 camp this week to the Gold Coast. A special shout out to Mandy Smith for her efforts in coordinating the camp. It is a massive task to coordinate a camp that includes flights, accommodation, meals and activities. There was also a large amount of fundraising and grant requests processed to keep the cost as low as possible for families. Our students have had a fantastic experience, participating in activities they wouldn't usually have the opportunity to access. I am sure they have made memories that will last a lifetime.
We are now working towards our year 5/6 camp and have an information session on Monday at 5pm. It is not compulsory families attend, we will send all information provided out via email also for anyone who can't make it. This will be held in the administration building.
School photos are Monday. Families can order online or through the ordering envelopes. Sibling photos will occur at 8:30am and individual photos throughout the day. Please call the office if you have any questions. Students in year 6 are permitted to wear their year 6 shirt, and seniors their shirts from this year. All other students are to wear the regular polo shirt (not sport).
Healthy Harold visited Winton this week with some important messages for our primary school students about a healthy lifestyle, safety, friendships and kindness. We also had artist Chrstine Porter visit all our students across a couple of days and teach them some art therapy strategies. Students continue to participate weekly in The Resilience Project, focused on the principles of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.
Can I please encourage families to make appointments with teachers if you wish to discuss your students learning progress (or send an email). While it is easy to often have a conversation in passing in a local venue, this is not the best setting for a teacher to give you a detailed updated your students learning, progress and behaviour. Before and after school they are often on duty or preparing for the day, therefore this is also not the best time to have a detailed conversation or receive thorough information. For your information I have included the Department of Education Parent & Community Code of Conduct.
Next Thursday we have out second Emergency services versus Winton State School sporting spectacular, this time it is basketball. Our first event of touch footy was a success and we look forward to hosting the next one on Thursday. All welcome to come along for a sausage sizzle and to spectate as hopefully the school comes out victorious.
Thanks as always for your support.
Take care,
Meggin
3-6 Art
Year 3-6 had the pleasure of working with a visiting artist Mrs Porter and got to draw an art piece around their feelings.
P/1/2
This term in P/1/2 we are investigating the story the 3 little pigs. In English we have been reading different versions of the 3 little pigs and trying to decide who's telling the truth, the wolf or the pigs? In maths we have been measuring the characters footprints as well as helping the wolf read maps and tell time. During science and technology we have been looking at different materials and the design process to build the 3 little pigs houses. Check out how our initial house designs have turned!
3-6 Healthy Harold
Year 3-6 had a wonderful time on Wednesday, thanks to the local council, with Harold. In the Life Education lesson they learnt a variety of strategies around the topic of relate, respect and connect. This session provided our students with relevant tips on keeping cybersafe.
