Term 3 Week 2
Principal Update
Welcome back to term 2. I hope all our students had an enjoyable holiday, we have sure hit the ground running and the holidays feels like so long ago. Term 3 is usually the busiest, with lots of interruptions. It is also very exciting as we start planning for the new school year.
The School Opinion Survey (SOS) is currently being undertaken. This is a Department of Education survey, and is independent to the school. It is a random selection of families and is anonymous. The feedback from this survey is really important to the school in informing our planning decisions moving forward, and identifying future priorities. Staff and students also complete the survey. Thank you in advance to the families who receive and complete the survey. Feedback is welcome at any time though, so please feel free to reach out if you have something you would like to discuss or suggest.
We have StoryFest coming up for our primary school in Longreach, the senior camp in week 4 and year 5/6 camp in week 8. Thank you to all families for your support with these. It is a lot of coordination arranging these camps and your support is appreciated. There are also some single day excursions this term. Please keep an eye on emails and Facebook for reminders about notes and payments (if required).
A start of term reminder about our uniform expectations. Students are expected to wear a school polo and plain school-coloured bottoms (navy or royal blue, maroon or black). This includes short and long pants. Denim of any colour is not acceptable. Students all received a school jumper last term, this is expected to be worn. In circumstances where this cannot be worn on occasion, a plain school-coloured jumped (navy or royal blue, maroon or black) is acceptable. This is to be plain and not covered in logos, writing or other designs. Enclosed footwear is required for safety, crocs or other sandals are not acceptable.
We are in our second term of running school-based tuckshop. Please continue to support this so it can continue to be something we offer. Orders are done through the QKR app and are due each Monday by midday for Tuesday. If you need support with the app please call Danielle in the office.
We have a P & C Meeting next Wednesday at 6pm in the admin building. The committee has been formed however all families are invited to attend and contribute. Over the remainder of the year we will also consult through P & C on some policy and strategic planning updates for 2025.
Looking ahead to the end of the year, this year we have a 10 week term 4 (usually only 9 weeks). The direction of the Department though is that this additional week of school is flexible in its structure to support schools with planning and preparation for the 2025 school year. As such, all learning and assessment will be completed by Friday 29th November (for students in P-9) and their attendance until this date is expected. While we will provide supervision to students from 2nd to 6th December, this will be an alternate program and not in their regular routine or class. Year 12 students finish on 15th November and year 10/11 students finish on 22nd November.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school and your students learning. As always, reach out if you we can be of support.
Take care,
Meggin

P-2 Maths Rotations
Term 3 already! This year is flying by and we are already halfway through the year! This fortnight student in P-2 have jumped right into their learning with writing holiday recounts, learning their group poem, revising time, counting concepts and lots more. This term we have lots of exciting experience coming up for our P-2 so please watch out for lots of notes coming home this term. Students have come home this week with their individual poems to learn. Please help us support your child in learning their poem by encouraging them to practice lots at home.

Thank you Winton Shire Council, Chloe and Shai for our pancake breakfast. What a great treat on such a cold morning.
Blackhawk Visit
This week we were lucky enough to welcome the Blackhawks to Winton State School. All of our students from Kindy to year 12 were treated with a session with the visitors.
